ValidMaint is a database with more than 1,500 questions that can be used to test the competence of maintenance technicians. It was created between 2005 and 2008. In an economically difficult time when technical jobs are bottleneck occupations, companies have every interest in testing the true competence of current and future employees. Based on the results, retraining can be much more targeted.

The VEMT project ran between 2012 and 2014 and focused on adding additional questions to this system, based on a competency model developed by the EFNMS. How does ValidMaint work? A company wanting to test a candidate's competence can have them answer a random selection of questions. It is also possible to test specific domains, e.g. troubleshooting, maintenance technology, ... . For this you can contact the national maintenance organisation, in your case BEMAS. Some of the participating countries have also already started real certification.

For this, the test is adapted to the conditions of the EQF (European Qualifications Network) or the NQF (National Qualifications Framework). A successful test then leads to a certificate from the EFNMS with the title 'Certified National Maintenance Technician Specialist.' What kind of questions? The project group with representatives from the nine participating countries drafts the (multiple-choice) questions based on the commonly shared standard that a maintenance technician must meet. This position is defined as a person with at least two years of working experience in maintenance and sufficient theoretical knowledge to independently coordinate and execute maintenance activities.
