Circular Maintenance

Circulair Onderhoud Interreg

On 16 April 2019 we kicked off the new Interreg Flanders-Netherlands project "Circular Maintenance".

Together with partners from Flanders and the South of the Netherlands, BEMAS and KicMPI worked on a number of innovative solutions regarding the prevention of repairs, more efficient use of capital investments, unlimited reuse or sustainable redeployment of production resources. These solutions will sustainably reduce the material footprint of the industry and at the same time achieve economic benefits.

Through practical research and demonstrations, innovative solutions were sought for practical issues such as the prevention of repairs and the sustainable reuse of equipment. Examples that were looked into: the reuse of electric motors and transformers when installations are renewed, the sharing of little-used maintenance tools, new techniques for cleaning that drastically reduce waste water and the use of chemical cleaning products, and so on.

Furthermore, new circular business models have been developed for the maintenance sector of the process industry. In each case, the central question was whether a solution is also economically viable and practicable for companies.

On 16 November 2023, this project concluded with a closing event, where the final results were shared and guest speakers from PwC, MGH and Province of Zeeland shared their insights on sustainable business.
