Industrial asset management under ISO 55000

Asset Management

Asset Management is a concept that has been increasingly used in recent years, both in the public sector (e.g. infrastructure managers) and in the private sector (e.g. manufacturing companies).

Factory

The ISO 55000 standard defines Asset Management as "the coordinated activity of an organisation to create value from assets".

It is a set of procedures and tools for optimising the performance of physical assets throughout their life cycle. Asset Management enables companies to make the right trade-offs between costs, returns and risks. Asset Management thus contributes to the structural and sustainable improvement of the operating result.

More and more companies and organisations are seeking to optimise their investment and management policy for infrastructure, plant and/or machinery on the basis of the principles of Asset Management as proposed in the ISO 5500x standard.

The principles behind the standard help organisations to ensure that everyone in the organisation is working towards the same goals around assets and that operational silos are broken down. Currently, too much value is still lost through sub-optimisation.

Asset Management is becoming a requirement to remain competitive in the global economy.

Programme

Many companies already have a well-functioning maintenance management in place.  Only a few pieces of the puzzle are missing to move towards Asset Management.

During this one-day training course we will cover the following aspects:

  • Introduction to the ISO55000 standard and its different components
  • Obstacles and alternatives to its implementation.
  • The essential components of a Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP)
  • How to define and monitor asset management objectives
  • How to involve stakeholders in the different stages of Asset Management
  • Demonstrate how to create value through Asset Management.

About the trainer

This training will be led by Serge Vanden Bulcke. After studying engineering sciences at UCL, Serge spent a few years designing and building mixing and grinding equipment for powdered products, and then automatic handling and transport equipment.

Since 2000, he has been supporting maintenance organisations in the professionalisation of their processes and the use of their CMMS. Through the realisation of such organisational improvement projects, Serge has acquired a solid experience in maintenance management and asset management, as well as in the change management often inherent to this type of project. He has also successfully completed the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) certified Asset Management course.

Who is this training for?

This course is designed for all operational managers (asset managers, technical directors, maintenance managers, fleet managers, etc.) who wish to start implementing Asset Management principles in their organisation.
