The essential skills for Root Cause Analysis
Essential problem solving skills are always needed. When it comes to extensive root cause analysis, major incidents or continuous improvement problem solving. Yet for most problems, an extensive heavy-handed approach is not necessary at all. It is more effective to use these essential skills in a fast and flexible routine, the 'Problem Solving Pitstop'.
In this training you will develop your problem-solving talents to solve problems quickly and effectively.

Programme
The training is practice-oriented. You work on essential problem solving skills such as asking the right questions and visualising information. During the training we alternate theory with many practical exercises. You will experience how you can immediately apply what you have learned in your work.
- Defining the problem (5W2H, IS/IS-NOT principle)
- Mapping the timeline
- Visualising the chain of cause and effect
- Finding causes (characteristics and changes, knowledge, experience)
- The importance of evidence
- Gathering the relevant facts
- Formulating the right research questions (e.g. 5x Why principle)
- Transferring problems effectively
- Working together briefly and powerfully

About the trainer
Bart Smit is a trainer and facilitator of training courses on problems, breakdowns and how to prevent them. He studied Operational Engineering and Business Administration in Amsterdam and worked in the energy and steel sector and as a consultant for Maxgrip, among others, before joining CoThink. By training and securing (rational) methods in daily practice, he helps organisations improve their performance. He has worked with many Belgian companies. His use of words and way of thinking is very much in line with the Flemish nature.
