When you hear the name Wout Theuws, the term Maintenance immediately comes to mind. Wout is known in the world of Maintenance and Asset Management as an expert who eagerly shares his knowledge and experience with colleagues in the field. Since his retirement, he has remained active in the community for several more years, but has now decided to take a well-earned rest. During the last board meeting, the Board of Directors therefore had the pleasure of appointing Wout Theuws an honorary member, honouring him for his years of dedication to BEMAS.

Wout was educated in car mechanics and started working in a garage at the age of 16, where he gradually took on more responsibilities. Thanks to his experience and practical skills, Wout Theuws was able to start at Fisher Price in 1975 as a tool designer and later on became Plant Engineering manager. Wout popped onto BEMAS' radar in 2000 when he won the prestigious title of Belgian Maintenance Manager of the Year. At that time, he had already been employed by Bosal for 15 years, where, through his commitment and additional studies, he rose from Technical Engineer Manager to Maintenance Manager, setting up a high-performance and results-driven maintenance management. Later, he also promoted here internationally to Group Manufacturing Excellence Leader HSE and Maintenance, responsible for sharing best practices in maintenance, asset management, health, safety and environment amongst 22 manufacturing companies across 5 continents.

Since then, Wout has been of invaluable importance to BEMAS. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Board of Directors and represented our Belgian association at the EFNMS (European Federation of National Maintenance Societies) until 2020.  Moreover, he also served on the jury for several BEMAS competitions and actively participated in various working groups on Maintenance and Asset Management. Thanks to his inspiring career, BEMAS even set up a competition for young people in his name in 2015, the Wout Theuws Prize. This is a competition that motivates young people, like Wout, to start their career in maintenance and grow into an industry expert thanks to continued commitment and study.
