SM4RTENANCE the Flagship European Initiative to Deploy a Data Space Federation in the Manufacturing Sector
BEMAS is a project partner of SM4RTENANCE, a consortium of 47 partners from 11 EU countries. With an investment of 14M€ SM4RTENANCE aims to deploy a Data Space federation and demonstrate the potential of multi-lateral digital value chains for collaborative and circular maintenance in the manufacturing industry. We are pleased to invite you to the online presentation of the biggest initiative to deploy the European Common Data Spaces for Industry 4.0.
SM4RTENANCE, with a 14M€ budget, will lead the construction of one of the 12 strategic common European data spaces set by the EC data strategy back in 2020. The European Industrial Data Space will improve the competitiveness, sustainability and resilience of Industry 4.0.
SM4RTENANCE will grow a European ecosystem and facilitate the establishment of new manufacturing data networks for implementation of agile management and predictive maintenance services of manufacturing assets across factories. SM4RTENANCE will provide the industrial sector with the necessary infrastructures, digital services and digital manufacturing platforms to maximise the benefits of data sharing at scale.
Join us for the online Opening Event of SM4RTENANCE, on November 6th, where you will deep dive into data space technologies and initiatives, experience their impact on the future of manufacturing and learn how you will be able to join and benefit for the future data space.
You can expect a full agenda with inspiring keynotes and insightful panels to get familiar with technologies, infrastructures and public policies necessary to make the operation of industrial data spaces a reality.

Maria Rossetti is R&D Programme Manager, MADE Compentece Center I4.0. MADE Competence Center is the Italian Compentence Center with over 2000 Testing Facilities supporting digital transformation of manufacturing industry. She’s coordinating European Digital Innovation Hub Lombardia and R&D innovation project in the field of digital manufacturing in innovation (test before einvest), education (teaching and learning factories), and ecosystem.
Sergio Gusmeroli is Research Coordinator at Politecnico di Milano, Industrial Engioneering Derpartment. He has been and is coordinating several H2020 and HEP projects in the domain of Digital Manufacturing, especially focussing on Data Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. Sergio is also co-leading the BDVA working group about Smart Manufacturing Industry and is workpackage leader of the Data Space 4.0 Coordination and Support Action in the Digital Europe Programme about Data Spaces for Manufacturing.
Dr. Oscar Lazaro is Director of Innovalia. He supported the EC DIH I4MS Programme set up and leads the WEF Advanced Manufacturing HUB (AMHUB), IDSA Hub in Spain. He is board member of the BAIDATA, EIT Digital Spanish CLC and actively engaged with the Data Space Support Centre (DSSC) and Digital Factory Alliance (DFA) activities, from where he led the set-up of the Data Space 4.0 initiative. He is representative of Innovalia in EFFRA, GAIA-X and BDVA. He led EU OpenDEI Think Tank on multilateral Digital Value Chains (DVC).
Christoph Mertens is a dedicated professional with a background in computer science, having graduated at the Technical University of Dortmund. As Head of Adoption at International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), he is strongly focused on the implementation of data spaces. With his interest in the technical aspects of data spaces in combination with his expertise in business cases and usage scenarios, he plays an important role in shaping the future of the global data economy in the data space community.
Throughout his career, Christoph has always searched for innovative ways to make data ecosystems as efficient, safe and secure as possible for companies. His work within IDSA added the aspects of data sovereignty and trust, as key enablers for data spaces that facilitate efficient collaboration across industries and domains on a global scale.
