The maintenance manager is obliged to draw up a maintenance budget on an annual basis. The maintenance plan is periodically evaluated and adjusted with a view to continuously increasing plant availability. A well-balanced budget gives the maintenance department the opportunity to monitor the realisation of improvement actions and to make adjustments where necessary. During the training we will see - that by using zero based budgeting - how to achieve this goal. 

During this training you will learn how to draw up a budget from your maintenance plan and defend it with the management. We will provide you with a number of concepts and tools for this, and get you started with zero-based budgeting.

  • Gain insight into a number of financial aspects such as supply chain, conversion costs, capital expenditure, variable costs, fixed costs, budgeting, controlling, Life Cycle Cost (LCC), ...
  • Knowing the needs and expectations of a maintenance budget
  • Understanding the basic principles and structure of a maintenance budget
  • To be able to distinguish specific maintenance costs from other costs
  • Knowing the difference between a budget strategy at Asset level or Work Order level
  • Recognising the advantage of a "Zero Based Budget" versus a historic or recurring budget
  • Determining what data is needed to create a maintenance budget
  • How to set up a correct maintenance budget in function of the maintenance plan
  • How to defend a maintenance budget towards management and how to communicate it to the maintenance team

This training is aimed at those responsible for budgeting and monitoring maintenance costs, such as production and maintenance managers, team leaders, reliability engineers, quality and business process managers.

About the trainer

Guido Verrept has been active as a trainer and improvement coach for over 30 years. Helping companies and their employees get ahead in their goals is his main motivation. Guido started his career as a design engineer at Atlas Copco, before joining ABB as Maintenance Manager.
