EASA-BEMAS Motor Club: Energy savings and operational performances of motor systems on the road to a circular economy Primary tabs

Seminar
Maintenance Management

EASA & BEMAS, with the support of Ghent University, organize on the 30th of November 2022 their 5th Motor Club in Belgium in a very interesting place: the Motion Products Laboratory of the Ghent University in Kortrijk.

The Motor Club is a great opportunity to connect with your colleagues in Motor Systems and learn about the most recent topics dedicated to the subject, such as Energy Savings and the Circular Economy.

Program

  • Introduction & short presentation of each participant
  • Presentation ‘Electric motors and driven equipment: evolutions in standards and impact on the circular economy’, by Kurt Stockman
  • Presentation ‘Calorimetric power loss measurements: how and why’, by Stan Caron & Kurt Stockman
  • Coffee break (EASA & Bemas - Quick Updates)
  • Presentations by the participants
    • “Impact of multiple rewindings on the efficiency of an induction motor”, by Karl Verhelst (ERIKS)
    • “The dark side of Variable Frequency Drives” by Bram Corne (Orbits)
    • Presentation by Emmanuel Buyck (The Rotating Company – Motoren Françoys, first shop to be EASA accredited in energy efficiency & reliability in Belgium)
  • Project & solutions Forum about Energy Savings & Circularity
  • Conclusions

Did you know?

Both BEMAS and the Ghent University are partners in the Interreg project ‘Circular Maintenance‘. In the Circular maintenance project, Ghent University investigates the remaining life prediction and the reuse of electric motors. When the Life Cycle Cost of an electric machine is analysed, it appears that the energy consumption of the machine is dominant in relation to the investment cost. On the other hand, in the context of a circular economy, the economic trade-off between replacing the motors or reusing refurbished ones needs to be investigated. The estimation of the remaining lifetime of a machine is also being investigated in this project.

EASA members are now developing a UN Sustainable Development Goals initiative and project.
